Just a very quick post to say how delighted we are that Wild Expeditions has received yet another award, this time MEA Markets Best Travel-driven Social Enterprise.
Wild Expeditions was set up by Journeys by Design in 2016 in partnership with a group of Ethiopian nationals – all guides we have worked with for an extremely long time – and has gone from strength to strength, despite the immense pressure it has been under from both the civil unrest in the north and the effects of the pandemic. Set up to revolutionise the travel sector in Ethiopia by developing a level of product as yet not seen in country, it provides top quality individually tailored safaris, and serves as a sustainable trade solution to the challenges facing the environment.
While travel is difficult in Ethiopia at the moment, it is certainly not impossible, especially in the hands of an outfit like Wild Expeditions. Its private mobile tented safaris, its ability to host trips in parts of the country rarely visited by anyone, let alone tourists, and the extraordinary knowledge of its guides means it is able to manage the seemingly impossible. A very recent example saw them organise and host the celebrated African ceremonial photographers Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher in the Omo. They really are that good.
So, well done Wild Expeditions, and the very best of luck as we come out of the pandemic and things hopefully begin to settle in the north.
